What's the point of having a blog like this off of your main website domain? Is there any marketing benefit?

Yep, there sure is. For starters, free blog sites like this one often rank very well. In fact, after just one post this blog hit the first page of Google for one of my target keyword phrases. In addition, you can place links on these blog sites that point to your main site and give them a boost for SEO purposes.

But let's revisit the first point: hitting the first page of Google. When this blog hit page 1 my main site was in a double listing at position 2 and 3. As a result I had 3 of the ten spots on page 1. I've had up to SIX of the first ten spots on Google for keywords I've been going after.
